If Kentucky isn’t on your radar yet, it probably should be.
I’ve worked with travelers here, we’ve spent time here as a family, and it’s one of those states that tends to surprise people. It’s affordable, contracts pop up consistently, and you get a mix of city life, small towns, and some really underrated outdoor spots.

This page is everything I have for Kentucky in one place, jobs, cities, housing, travel ideas, and resources if you’re planning an assignment here.
Current Travel Nurse Jobs in Kentucky
Instead of focusing on specific job listings, it’s more helpful to understand where contracts consistently come up across the state.
These are the facilities and systems I see the most activity from and where I regularly place travelers.
This is one of the largest systems in Kentucky and one of the most consistent for travel contracts.
It’s a major academic facility, so things tend to move quickly and you’ll be part of a larger team. If you’re comfortable in a busier environment, this is a strong option.
🏥 Baptist Health Lexington (Lexington)
Another steady option in Lexington.
This one tends to feel a little more balanced day-to-day while still offering solid opportunities. I’ve seen a lot of travelers do well here.
🏥 Norton Healthcare (Louisville area)
This system includes several hospitals throughout Louisville, so there’s usually a variety of opportunities depending on timing.
Facilities include:
Norton Audubon Hospital
Norton Brownsboro Hospital
Norton Women's and Children's Hospital
If you’re looking for a busier city assignment, this is where I usually start.
🏥 UofL Health (Louisville)
This system tends to have frequent openings and a wide range of units depending on the hospital.
Experiences here can vary quite a bit, so this is one where I like to walk through the details with travelers before they make a decision.
🏥 Baptist Health Paducah (Paducah)
Smaller market, but still a reliable option.
If you’re looking for something quieter and easier to navigate day-to-day, this can be a really good fit.
🏥 Meadowview Regional Medical Center (Maysville)
This one comes up less often, but it’s worth keeping on your radar.
Smaller facility, slower pace, and a different feel than the larger systems.
Eastern Kentucky
It’s a smaller, more community-based hospital
Assignments here tend to be more close-knit, and your experience can feel a lot more personal.

Best Cities in Kentucky for Travel Nurses
Kentucky has a little bit of everything, so where you land really depends on what you want your assignment to feel like.

This is one of the most consistent areas for travel nurse jobs in Kentucky. It’s spread out, easy to live in, and has a good mix of hospitals, restaurants, and open space. You don’t feel crammed, but you’re not bored either.

If you want more going on outside of work, this is your spot. More food, more events, more options in general. It’s also where several of the larger hospital systems are located, so you’ll see steady opportunities here.

This sits right between Louisville and smaller-town living. It’s quieter, easier to navigate, and still close enough to bigger areas if you want to get out and explore on your days off.

This is a completely different pace.
More rural, more mountains, and a much quieter day-to-day experience. If you’re looking for something simple and want to be surrounded by nature, this is worth considering.

Similar feel to Hazard and Harlan, smaller town, more laid back, and surrounded by eastern Kentucky scenery.
This is a good option if you want something quieter and don’t need a lot of city activity.
